Cyclone Ditwah: Red Alert Issued in Tamil Nadu; Landfall Likely Tomorrow, Says IMD

In contrast to a storm east of Sri Lanka in the Arabian Sea basin, Cyclone Tacawh is heading across a clear way west over the Yemen coast while intensifying slightly.
While one key model has already issued a "yellow alert" for Quantico, Va.; Dyersburg, Tenn.; Jackson, Miss.; Tallahassee, Fla. and Albany, N. Y., the Tropical Anal quarterly merely tells us the event may pose some severe weather potential. Hints by this point suggest that a major winter storm has already forced an advance.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for the following districts:
1) Cuddalore
2) Mayiladuthurai
3) Villupuram
4) Chengalpattu
5) The Puducherry region
Extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Tamil Nadu and heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in some other parts on Saturday as forecasted by the IMD.
The speed of wind along the coast of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry (70-80 km/hr, gusting up to 90 km/hr) will need to be taken into account up to Sunday from the very morning of Saturday.
IMD has also warned about localized flooding, urban waterlogging, and flash floods in hill states. Winds may possibly storm off trees, damage hoardings, and affect thatched/mud houses as well.
Stand crops—including horticulture, floriculture, and vegetables days or weeks from harvest—are expected to be severely damaged.
Rain is likely to decrease after December 1st.
Rainfall outlook for other regions in the south:
Kerala: Light to moderate rain at many places locally heavy at some locations on Saturday.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh–Yanam and Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rain at most places, will increase to heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Telangana: Light to moderate rain at a few places with isolated heavy spells on Sunday.
